Why Your Business NEEDS A Blog

Why start a new blog?

Blogging is more than just a trendy thing to do; it is essential for businesses. After launching our new site, one of the first things our team did was start a blog (so we practice what we preach!) Blogging is a cheap and easy way to expand your reach, drive traffic to your website, and bring in customers.

Why is blogging essential for your company?

Blogging creates new content on your website, which boosts your Google PageRank.

Further, the more unique viewers on your site and the longer viewers spend on your site, the higher your Google PageRank will be. Having a high PageRank is incredibly important because as people search words related to your business (“social media consulting”, in our case), your page will slowly work towards a spot as one of the top results on Google's first page. This means that people will find your page organically (without pricy ads) and will consider your site a satisfying resource for their questions and curiosities, making them the perfect potential customer.  Still not completely convinced? Here are “19 reasons why your company should have a blog”.

Once your company has decided to create a blog, how do you get started?

First, start by thinking about what type of content to create. What is your unique expertise that you can give insight on? The most important thing is to create quality content that people want to read, share, and link to, which will help that valuable PageRank. Research what topic readers would want you to write about, not necessarily what you want to write about. While blogging does give you the opportunity to market your brand and tell the world about how awesome your product is, the best blogs are interesting and provide answers to questions that readers may or may not have ever known they had. Your main goal is to create intrigue and establish yourself as a trustworthy expert to readers.

Its important to consistently maintain your blog, because the more often you blog, the more pages for search engines to find, and the more traffic to your site.

Keeping a consistent blog means planning ahead:

Use keyword planners to see what is popular now and improve your SEO, but also try to predict what will be popular in the future.

For fashion, see what trends fast fashion sites are copying and write about them quickly.

Before holidays, plan ahead and write a post 2-3 weeks before consumers are inundated.

There are many more ways to plan ahead and construct blog posts that make a splash. Check back next week for more on how to compose a killer post...
